The following are some of the notes that we took from Bill Axtell as he taught on overcoming the spirit of poverty February 7 in Calgary, AB.
1. Look to the true SOURCE.
And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. - Deuteronomy 8:18
2. Giving to the Lord.
On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside, storing up as he may prosper, that there be no collections when I come. -1 Corinthians 16:2
3. Giving to the poor.
He who gives to the poor will not lack, But he who hides his eyes will have many curses. - Proverbs 28:27
4. Hard work. The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, But those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty. - Proverbs 21:5
5. Generousity.
Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you. - Luke 6:38
6. Obedience to the Word of God.
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. - Joshua 1:8
7. Change your self concept, and gain your true identity/destiny in Christ.
Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life. - Proverbs 4:23
8. Replace criticism, fault finding and complaining with intercession and love.
Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, And that you bring to your house the poor who are cast out; When you see the naked, that you cover him, And not hide yourself from your own flesh? Then your light shall break forth like the morning, Your healing shall spring forth speedily, And your righteousness shall go before you; The glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the LORD will answer; You shall cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am.’ “ If you take away the yoke from your midst, The pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness. - Isaiah 58:7-9
